Telangana to offer free education to children of deceased journalists: KTR

Hyderabad: TRS working president and MAUD Minister K T Rama Rao on Sunday said the State government was willing to take care of the educational needs of children of deceased journalists in the State.
“If the mothers’ approve, the State government will enroll such children into residential schools and all their educational needs will be taken care of by the government,” Rama Rao assured, after distributing cheques of Rs one lakh each to 11 families of deceased journalists.
Addressing a programme organised by the Telangana State Media Academy here on Sunday, he said the government was working for the welfare of all sections of society, including lawyers and journalists. “Telangana is the only State to set up an exclusive Rs.100 crore welfare funds each for the welfare of lawyers and journalists fraternity,” he said.

The Media Academy is extending financial assistance of Rs.1 lakh each to the bereaved families of deceased journalists. The Minister handed over cheques to 11 families at the programme and the rest were presented by Academy representatives.
The Minister said there were about 19,150 accredited journalists in the State, while there were only 1,000 accredited journalists in Gujarat. The State government has issued health cards to 61,500 journalists, he said, adding that all the issues and delays pertaining to the cards will be addressed shortly.
He appealed to journalists to think wisely before casting their votes in the MLC elections and extend their support to a progressive government like the TRS administration. “I am aware of the long-pending house sites allotment issue. There are some legal aspects but in all probability, the sites will be handed over in six months to one year,” assured Rama Rao.

An overhead electrical equipment failure was reported near Moulali on Sunday night after power lines reportedly snapped over a moving Intercity Express.

Hyderabad: Overhead electrical equipment (OHE) failure was reported between Secunderabad and Lalaguda stations on Sunday night, after power lines reportedly snapped over a moving Intercity Express near Moulali. The incident occurred around 10 pm, caused a loud noise, following which the train was stopped near Moulali as a precaution. Some passengers reportedly stepped out of the train amid confusion. The South Central Railway officials immediately launched restoration measures. According to the railway authorities, there were no casualties or injuries in the incident. A few trains were detained or regulated for less than 10 minutes and were subsequently allowed to resume normal operations. Train No. 12795 Vijayawada–Lingampalli Express, which was detained in the section, was being moved towards Secunderabad. Railway authorities clarified that both up and down train services are now operating normally.
